  1. Minimally invasive Endoscopy Surgery

Only Bahamian certified in advance endoscopic surgery, ie:

  1. Laparoscopy

–        What is it? It is an outpatient procedure that allows the physician to look directly into the abdomen and at the reproductive organs through a small telescope inserted through a small incision (cut) below the belly button.

–        Laparoscopy is an outpatient procedure, minimally invasive and can be used to

  • Diagnose endometriosis
  • Assess pelvic pain
  • Assess ectopic pregnancy
  • Check ovarian cysts/masses

–        The capability to do these surgeries at the Health Center for Women and to treat these conditions with advance operative.

  1. Hysteroscopy

–  What is it?  It is a special minimally invasive surgery that uses a special light transmitting telescope to view the inside of the lining of the uterus.

–  Abnormalities of the uterine lining include:

  • Fibroids
  • Polyps
  • Early precancerous change
  • Adhesions/scared tissue

and can be the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding (longer, heavier menstrual bleeding with clots)

–  At the Health Centre for Women, Hysteroscopy is done as an in-office procedure and generally required no sedation.  Patients can watch the procedure on the monitor.

We offer advanced hysteroscopic surgery to treat these conditions as an out-patient surgery as an alternative to hysterectomy.

 

  1. Reproductive Services/Infertility

–  Infertility is a common medical condition affection approximately 20% of couples in our population.

–  This increases significantly after 35 years

–  Causes of infertility include:

  • Diseases of fallopian tubes
  • Endometriosis
  • Infections
  • Previous surgery
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • The male

–  At the Health Center for Women, we offer the latest technology to assess and treat a couple’s causes of infertility.  These include:

  • In-house hormone testing
  • Sperm preparation for semen analysis
  • Intra-uterine insemination (IUI) also known as artificial insemination
  • Full range invitro fertilization through IVF Bahamas (IVFB)
  • Ultrasound monitoring

–  Trans vaginal ultrasound (TVS) of follicles (egg development)

  • Fertility drug treatment for ovulation induction
  • Accurate pregnancy testing of early conception
  • Sperm freezing (cryo preservation)

 

  1. Cervical Cancer treatment & screening
  • Routine & liquid base pap smears
  • Colposcopy  & bioscopies for abnormal pap smears
  • In office cryo surgery (freezing treatment)
  • In office LEEP/LLETZ for pre-cervical treatment
